Things we’re loving this week comes straight from the UK.
With 60 million more people than lil’ old New Zealand there is bound to be more product choice. However shopping around in England has made me realise there is hardly any affordable, easily available hair care products here specifically for curly hair. When you literally look like Mèrida from the movie Brave, this is a problem.
Curly hair has specific needs. Shampoo and conditioner for dry hair works OK until you use stuff for curls, then you realise how much better curl specific product is. This also goes for any styling products. I don’t want my curls dragged down by thick layers of goop. Nor do I want something that can’t tame the frizz.
I’m particularly loving Umberto Giannini’s range of curly hair products, John Frieda’s Frizz ease shampoo and conditioner and Aussie’s Curl Defining Serum. Not only were they available in the supermarkets and pharmacy chain Boots, they were the same price point as the products for other hair types. I don’t want to spend $50 on shampoo and conditioner. I’m a copywriter, not Jeff Bezos.
I’m far from the only person in NZ with curly hair. So retailers, if you’re reading this, it’s time to acknowledge the unique needs of us curly types in the high street and in the supermarket aisles.
