Sans Pareil bringing you New Zealand Fashion Week 2019 as it happens.
Our number one pick has to be the incredible show by Lenon Wakuwa who was featured first in the Runway’s Collections. These colourful, African inspired looks were as bold as they were beautiful and showcased a range of incredible fabrics and iconic headwear. This collection had so much love, heart, and soul it actually got me a little misty eyed to the point I steamed my camera lens up.
Another thing to really love about this show was the diverse range of models that walked. It’s really important at this stage in fashion to see different ages, body types, access needs, and cultures on the catwalk and I’m glad to see we’re moving forwards with that. Everybody deserves to see themselves represented in fashion.
Second pick is the always iconic Hailwood. Adrian Hailwood established the label in 2000 and has shown at Fashion Week every year since 2001.
This year’s collection featured sleek and highly versatile daytime to evening wear with soft feminine undertones. My favourite piece had to be the gorgeous soft green dress with a ruffle rosette, it smoothed the line between wearable art and practical clothing seemlessly. Petra Bagust’s 16 year old daughter Venetia looked stunning walking for the first time at NZFW wearing a long, floral, maxi dress.
Hailwood is a go-to for anyone who wants an iconic piece of clothing that will last the distance in terms of style and wearability. Check out our favorite Hailwood looks below
