British designer Billy Harrison of future thinking label Couturiosity (a combination of curiosity and couture) tells us in his own words how his label is moving forward in these uncertain times, the meaning of “Computer Couture”, and the new collection – Indigo Child
The world is going through a really challenging time at the moment which, is in turn, reshaping and changing every industry, including fashion. The way seasonal collections are going to be showcased may change, shopping habits and retail environments are about to transform, and how people access fashion is about to enter a period of innovation.
When I started Couturiosity last year it was out of a passion to combine the craftsmanship of luxury evening wear
with the curious nature of human exploration and the escapism of storytelling through fashion. Now more than
ever fashion is the perfect vessel of escapism and the time to use that curious nature to explore the next steps in
how fashion can become more accessible during these strange times, which is why I want to take this opportunity
to introduce you to our new virtual lookbook as part of the first steps into the future of our brand.
Created using 3D technology, we have taken our new collection samples, patterns and textiles and transformed
them into virtual made-to-fit garments. Over the coming months we are looking to develop our
#computercouture series in conjunction with a service with which clients can have bespoke made-to-fit garments
created virtually, resulting in custom made evening wear piece using the latest in-fit
technology, 3D pattern drafting software, and digital textile development bringing the atelier experience into
Introducing ‘Indigo Child’
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
– Martin Luther King Jr.
Inspired by spirituality, psychic energy and spectral auras, Indigo Child tells the story of the spiritual awakening of colour and positive energy in a grey world – a powerful spectrum of light in the dark times, and where the light touches and the darkness disperses. The narrative of our own light energy and the influence of auras, earth spirits and crystals are captured in the collection through a combination of pastel hues, soft tulles, liquid fabrics and vibrant prints. Pastel colours, soft fabrics and flowing silhouettes are crafted into pieces that act like a spiritual armour as
we traverse a world full of uncertainty. Welcome to the era of the Indigo Child.”
