Now that we are in Level 2, I don’t know about you all, but I’m feeling a whole lot of different emotions, that don’t seem to make much sense. On the one hand, I’m desperate to see my parents, and as we have the official nod, I’ll be getting in my car and driving the 2 hours to them as soon as I can. Being able to see my friends and family again, and hug them, and hang out again is giving me all the feels. However… the time in lockdown has been a real gift for my son and I and I will miss the time we have shared. I’ll also miss the time I’ve been able to focus on myself, and my extended morning and evening skincare routines most of all…
Which is why I’m going to continue them. Possibly with a step or two removed for brevity, and less sheet masking in the morning. These little rituals have become such an incredibly important part of my life, and I can honestly see such a positive knock on effect in other parts of my life – namely my mental health – that to give them up once life goes back to ‘normal’ would be really sad, so I have decided to keep them.
I’ve always been the type of person that needs to know EVERYTHING about the things that I’m interested in, and skincare is no different. I love to spend hours online reading about ingredients, and brands, and reviews, and looking at websites that sell all the wonderful skincare, making extensive wish lists of things I’d like to try one day. I’m really focused at the moment on finding things that don’t come with a hefty price tag, but that still will provide the results I want. This time in lockdown has given me unlimited opportunities to indulge in my favourite pastime of online window shopping, and I have reignited my interest in the brand The Ordinary. Have you heard of them? They are a fascinating brand that is part of the Deciem stable, and their ethos is basically effective ingredients, with none of the bells and whistles that push the prices up. Fantastic, yes?
The only issue I find with The Ordinary, is that navigating the website in order to choose the right products for your needs, is a nightmare. With other brands they make it very clear what their serum is marketed to do brightening, clearing, oil production reduction, etc. Not so with The Ordinary. Their serums are essentially singular active ingredients, and the idea is to choose 2 or 3 of them depending on what you’re looking for. For a newbie to the skincare world, that is daunting AF! Luckily there are resources online that explain what each ingredient does, and makes the decision making a little easier. If you have any questions though, I would be very happy to help you out, so feel free to contact me via Sans Pareil. We will get you glowing (or clearing, or brightening) in no time! And with less of a dent in your bank account.
You can thank me later 🤩
Speaking of thanking me later, I have been absolutely over the moon by the wonderful feedback I’ve received regarding these pieces about skincare and selfcare. It’s wonderful to know that so many of you have found inspiration to start taking a little time out for yourselves each day. One thing that I’ve been asked though is to talk about makeup too and as it happens, I’m also a makeup lover, and can waffle on ad infinitum about all the beautiful things we have available to us. So my next piece will be a little chat about my absolute favourite makeup items. Stay tuned, lovely people! I’ll be here for you weekly, helping to demystify the world of skincare AND makeup… one hyaluronic acid serum, and mascara, at a time.
