Toying with a new photography project idea involving elderly women. I really really love this image i took of my great aunt Lillian in 2013 when i was staying with her in Calgary. She was 93 here, and still looked so beautiful.

She was living in the same little yellow state house she bought for $10,000CD in 1960 with her husband.

I found it really interesting that where she was born, i think Manitoba; the street she lived on was one side America and one side Canada. Untill she was an adult never knew if she was American or Canadian.

Realising the trope of the girl having a breakdown and cutting her bangs/fringe as a sign of mental distress is another example of women being ridiculed for taking ownership of their bodies and appearance.

Not to say getting a professional hairdresser isn't well worth it, but sometimes cutting or dying your hair yourself, is the financially cheapest way to change up your look. Adult women should be trusted to change up their hair if they want to without having their sanity questioned.
