Winning even small prizes in competitions is one of life’s little pleasures. It’s a great feeling to have a present delivered to your door. It’s like fate is saying “hey, I caught you a break”. However, you’re usually up against hundreds of other entries all vying for the same prize. Although winners are chosen at random, there are things you can do to up your chances of being picked.
After running our own competitions for a few years now, we’ve identified a few tactics to help you get lucky.
1 Don’t assume because there’s lots of other entries there’s no point entering. Social media competitions generally don’t work on a first come first served basis. The 400th entry has just as much chance as the first so always enter irrespective of how many entries it already has.
2 Have your location visible. This is especially relevant if the prize is location specific, for example vouchers to an event, or if the competition is only open to addresses in a certain area. If you don’t want your location visible on your profile you can always write that you are in the area specified in your entry.
3 Don’t have a page admin blocked. Sounds like a no brainer but you can’t win if we can’t see you.
4 Submit lots of entries. Tag a friend per comment. Social media competitions are usually picked at random so the more entries you have the more chances you have of winning.
5 Like the page hosting the competition. The page administration can see if you follow the page or not so make sure you hit that like button.
