Here are 10 of my personal best picks from the 2023 Oscar red carpet outfits, some absolute stunners there this year! In no particular order, they are all equally worthy of this list.
1 – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
First of all, I have to include The Rock on this list so my 8 year old son doesn’t disown me, but he has definitely earnt his place here. Classy AF in that satin salmon jacket, how incredibly does he pull it off!
It’s kind of a cool juxtaposition of muscley-ness (my spell check is telling me that’s not a word) and a certain level of gentleness. I like it.
2 – Halle Bailey
Halle shows she is absolutely worthy of filling Ariels shoes (shoes? OK, flippers, I guess) in this fit-for-a-mermaid-princess gown. SOOO magical, and somehow both sophisticated and innocent. Just GORGEOUS.
3 – Idris Elba
The ever-stylish Idris Elba, in Gucci. Can Idris Elba do any wrong? Well, I would say no (besides ‘The Wire’, which I found incredibly boring, THERE – I ADMITTED IT!!!). But outfit-wise, no, he really can’t. Total old-school cool.
4 – Cara DeLevingne
As much as I love this dress by Lebanese designer Elie Saab, I am also reminded of that moment in ‘The Critic’ where Jay describes a red dress as looking like a blood clot.
Also, is that a pocket?!
5 – Rihanna
When I was pregnant, I had the elegance and grace of a beached whale. Rihanna looks bloody fantastic, same as her last pregnancy, and I’m genuinely happy for her, pregnancy is a state of being that you either thrive in or you don’t (and both are OK!). This is such a beautiful look.
6 – Kerry Condon
I absolutely hate yellow, so when I say someone looks good wearing yellow, that’s a pretty major, genuine compliment. This gown worn by Irish actress Kerry Condon is incredibly lovely.
7 – Ana de Armas
In a custom-made Louis Vuitton gown, Ana de Armas looks like Hollywood royalty. I love how understated her makeup and accessories are, the dress just shines!
8 – Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh was the lady of the moment at this year Oscars, with her history-making win. How incredible is this Dior haute-couture gown which took over 200 hours to assemble!
The dress definitely ran the risk of looking too chicken-like, but instead looks ethereal and delicate.
9 – Lenny Kravitz
Poor Lenny Kravitz, I’m worried about him. I’m no medical expert but I think he should get his thyroid checked.
Because how on earth does someone look constantly hot but also always so damn cool?
10 – Sandra Oh
Sandra Oh-my-god-this-outfit-is-incredible.
This dress by Giambattista Valli is just the perfect combination of everything and totally wins the Oscars for me.
