Being that weird week between Xmas and New Year's where you've got all the time in the world, are filled with chocolate and cheese AND you're probably being bombarded with boxing day sales and are considering what to exchange that item of clothing you got that really isn't your style or that sweet Christmas money. I just want to pop up and show you some local designers that would be a great way to get that New Year's Eve fit AND support the local community. Shopping locally is important because it helps support your community and keeps money circulating close to home. When you buy from local businesses, you're helping create jobs, boost the local economy, and even reduce your environmental footprint by cutting down on transportation emissions. Plus, local shops often offer unique, one-of-a-kind products and personalized service that you can't find at big chain stores. Itβs a win for you, your neighbors, and the planet!
Gloria
Gloria is the latest creation of artist and designer Kristine Crabb a.k.a Miss Crabb. As well as being ethically made, most creations are made in her shop/ studio. Gloria still has the trademark Crabb romantic, silk drapery. If you want to treat yourself to a gorgeous feminine piece you can wear multiple ways.
Carlson
Carlson is another iconic Kiwi label, by Tanya Carlson. I love this label because it takes unique prints and tailoring while mixing it with Carlson's laid-back, surfer South Island background.
SHEN
Shen is predominately online based with the occasional pop-up and does the most beautiful kimonos and wrap dresses among other fab things! I actually own several SHEN pieces and feel effortlessly glam. I'm currently obsessed with the below linen dress. Summer dream.
Kathryn Wilson
Kathryn Wilson is that perfect mix of luxury, comfort and fun. I can't get enough of these shoes because they are both unique and comfortable. Perfect for a Kiwi summer!
Velvet Heartbeat
Velvet Heartbeat is a boutique Aotearoa handbag label that does not sacrifice style for ethics. Each bag is hand made, right down to the fact you can chose your own lining pattern! The other cool thing about these bags is that they are vegan, and I don't mean pleather like most vegan leather is, I mean like - latest technology made from cactus (or corn, or pineapple! yes pineapple! read about it here).
LaLA_ Lost and Led Astray
Speaking of uncompromising ethics AND style, LaLA is a fantastic label I've known for a few years now. The thing I love about LaLA is that it breaks through the perceptions that separate design-driven fashion and plus-size clothing. Meaning that while they are technically a plus size/inclusive label, their stuff is so good that all sizes will want to shop there. Which let's face it, doesn't happen very often.
Chaplin / Made By V
Chaplin and Made by V are a father and daughter design duo based in Auckland. Chaplin is a fantastic clothing label designed and made in NZ by fashion industry veteran Paul Chaplin. The acorn of design talent didn't fall far from the tree with daughter, Veritty Chaplin creating her own bag label Made by V. These are well-made, unique grunge fell bags are great every day bags. I love mine!
Taylor Boutique
Taylor Boutique is the epitome of cool. If you want to invest in a versatile piece or capsule wardrobe, here is a brand that you will keep their pieces for years, and will always get compliments!
Storm
Last on this list is another great Kiwi label favourite of mine: Storm. I love this label because it mixes contemporary chic designs with a rock'n'roll edge. If you want to bring out your inner Karen O or Kim Gordon, check out their ultimate cool girl range.
