1) A good pair of cans.
Noting slaps harder than a banger, apart from maybe a banger pumped out by a sweet pair
of cans (headphones). The brand I have been rocking for the last couple of years are
Soundcore. Yep, they are still going as strong as the day I bought them and are a good
combination of sound quality and style. There are many cool headsets; they come in all
shapes and sizes and have a vast range of sound quality. They also double as a great fashion
accessory. Also, earbuds are bad for your ears, too, kids. Two years ago, I was walking to
work and saw my work crush walking across the park, and she had these cool hot pink cans
on. Yes, they were hot pink, but she combined them with her punk aesthetics, and it was
just so cool that she melted my mind. I decided I had to go up to her and talk to her finally…
and ask what band her headphones were in. When you are not wearing them, they sit
around your neck saying, I am serious about music and good sound quality.
2) Comme De Garcons
What can I say? I am not even going to try to narrow it down. I like anything Comme de. I
often joke that I own so much Comme De Garcons that I am Comme de Colin (yes, that is my
real first name – I just doxxed myself). I recently bought a new polo neck T-shirt and got a
cool black one. In my opinion, it’s much cooler than a polo Ralph Lauren one and on par with
Fred Perry’s level of alt cool.
3) Blue light-blocking glasses
I got these mad blue-light-blocking glasses from Block Blue Light that make me look like
some badass manga character. I feel like I should be shooting zombies in them. Originally, I
got them so I could stay up late and doomscroll and still be able to drift off to sleep
afterwards. Now I wear them to the office so my peepers don’t ache after a day of working
for the man. Since then, I have slowly drifted to wearing them as a fashion accessory. It’s a
great way to look cool and be kind to your eyes while still being naughty with late-night
tech. In my opinion, self-care never looked so cool.
4) Baggy trousers
What can I say? I am loving my Humphrey Bogart era. Baggy trousers have a real 1950s noir
feel that I can get past. They are super comfortable and look cool, draped over a pair of docs
or chunky sneakers. I am over the moon to have moved on from my indie sleaze skinny
jeans days. Thank god my pins can breathe again. They are much happier to let loose from
their straitjacket!
5) Breda watch
I used to think that watches were pointless, but now that we all have phones in our pockets
telling us the time 24/7, I was also skeptical of the everyday man’s watch that invariably all
look the same. Women’s watches have a greater range and variety, but they were not for
me. A few years ago, I fell in love with Breda watches, and this year, I have taken the plunge
and bought myself a lovely silver version of one of their flagship watches. They are relatively affordable and so sleek and avant-garde that I couldn’t resist. I feel like I am wearing a
beautiful, big, chunky silver bangle that tells the time. What could be better? I have always
loved people who elegantly drip gold or silver. Now I got that silver drip.
