Earth Day 2022 – NZ Beauty Brands Changing the World

By Anne-Marie Jones

Emma Lewisham

Emma Lewisham’s skincare products are natural-based and backed with science, and this fabulous brand is going global! The ingredients and formulas are thoroughly tested and also offer the advantages of being natural and free of the nasty, potentially harmful chemicals often found in skincare.

Emma Lewisham products are certified PETA cruelty-free and kind to the environment.

We previously reviewed some of the Emma Lewisham range, and are big fans!

Ethique

Unless you’ve been living under the rock this past decade, you MUST have heard of Christchurch based skin and body brand Ethique. Celebrities from Ashton Kutcher to Britney Spears have publicly praised Ethique’s products, particularly their famous shampoo bars.

Founder Brianne West is a young entrepreneur who has made a huge impact in the beauty industry in the past decade. Not only are the Ethique products natural and full of gentle, beneficial ingredients, they are low waste, saving a huge amount of plastic.

Linden Leaves

Linden Leaves are a long-established brand in NZ, known for quality. Started in 1995, by Brigit Blair, a mother who wanted to create more gentle, natural skincare for her two children.

Since then they have grown a huge range of products which are ethical and sustainable, as well as being NATRUE certified.

Trilogy

Starting way back in 2002, Trilogy were one of NZ’s leaders in clean, natural beauty. I actually remember working in pharmacy when they first released and I was unenthused that a new rosehip oil product was coming instore – we had one already, an Australian brand, that didn’t sell well at all. “This one is WAY better! And it’s NZ made and owned!”, my workmates said. I was skeptical, but the sales quickly started pouring in, the range expanded, and the rest is history!

The Trilogy philosophy is built on principles of Authenticity, Integrity, Honesty and Responsibility, as well as sustainable practices. They have taken NZ beauty to the international market – even Kate Middleton is reportedly a fan!

Evolu

Kati Kaska created a unique range of skin and bodycare way back in 1997, with natural, science-backed ingredients, including elements of traditional Maori healing ingredients such as Manuka Honey and Harakeke. Evolu products are cruelty-free, and are a Carbon Neutral business, with many recyclable and reusable packaging components.

The Evolu range can be found all across NZ (and online), in pharmacies and Farmers stores.
