Katya Zhatova is a Ukrainian artist currently residing in Berlin, who creates striking illustrations that she shares on her Instagram @creepyweirdodo. She has been drawing for several years; creating covers, posters, postcards and illustrations for websites and social networks. Her artwork primarily features caricatures that are often inspired by current events and her personal perspectives on life. They reflect her mood, impressions, and inspirations from people and situations. For instance, she created a picture called "Memory Assistant" after a conversation with friends at a bar.
“We discussed how things often slip from our minds, and I imagined an assistant that could organise memories and information into folders, providing them when needed.”
Other illustrations, such as the kitchen scene, the girl on the toilet, and the soup, originated from her dreams. Additionally, the holiday cards for Thanksgiving and New Year featured a man on a plate and a girl with sweets in underwear, conveying a sarcastic message.
The girl with the reflection in the mirror symbolises warmth and self-care, capturing the essence of spring for her. The illustration of a hand throwing a ball of people was created during a time when Karya felt frustrated and annoyed by everyone around her, something we can probably all relate to. The picture of girls in the bathroom, inside a dirty laundry basket, reflects her disappointment with girlfriends.
Lastly, there is a drawing of a girl with a glass representing a good weekend. Very creative images which can suit all types of moods.
