By now you’ve probably heard me gush about Off & On. They are literally the brow guru’s ok New Zealand. Because I love them so much, I decided I had to get all the inside info on how the pros look after their own bodacious brows.
I got to talk to Claire Weathers the Auckland Regional Manager of Off & On and get the best tips from the best in the biz. Read on to find out how you can get them brows looking perfect.
SP: What is a basic tip of brow maintenance that everyone should be following?
CW: Always fill your brows prior to tweezing them at home. Use a product to outline the shape and then only remove hairs in the outer brow area and never too close to the line. Remove only one hair at a time, never touch the top of the brows, always work in natural light and use a larger mirror for an overall view of your brows.
SP: What is the best way to get your brows back after over-plucking?
CW: Patience and not touching! Repeatedly removing hair can disrupt the hairs growth cycle, and sometimes distort the follicle. Wait as long as possible then go visit your brow expert so they
can discuss your brow rehab with you.
There are a number of solutions to help whilst you grow in your brows and colour is the key to
faking strength. Our Henna spa system produces a subtle skin stain which is brilliant for
creating strength and camouflaging gaps.
Products like pomades or powders are also a great way to make the brows appear thicker and fuller whilst patiently waiting. Brush your brow hairs up also helps to fake the appearance of fullness. And if all else fails there are supplements and serums to help promote hair growth.
We recommend Li Brow.
SP: What do you think about microblading and it becoming such a big trend?
CW: It’s a wonderful brow treatment giving hope to those who have over-plucked, suffered illness,
autoimmune disease or experienced hormonal hair loss.
It is, however, not a one size fits all treatment and not to be taken lightly. As with any form of
tattooing, it comes with risk. Do your research, go for consultations (not just one!), ask the
hard questions and don’t bargain hunt.
Microblading has become hugely popular recently – meaning there’s a wide range of skill levels and professionalism out there. Choose a technician who’s experienced and follows strict hygiene procedures (personally we believe in a completely disposable treatment). Not everyone needs microblading – if you naturally have a full brow that just lacks colour and definition, perhaps a shape and colour will do the trick. Consider all of your options before choosing the solution that best fits your needs.
SP: What are your favourite trends for brows at the moment and what do you predict will be big for summer?
CW: Today’s most requested brow shape at ON is still a fuller yet natural brow with most clients opting for a softer arch to create believability. But colour is going to be the game changer this summer. Colour gives strength and depth to your shape and people are now wanting brow colour to be more progressive like hair colour. This means multi-dimensional, vibrant, and tonal. Hence where our henna spa service has come at the best time!
SP: What are some trends you’re not a fan of?
CW: 2017 was one of the biggest years to date for some atrocities for brows! Brow trends! The
Braided brow, the Squiggle brow and the ponytail brow were definitely a step beyond
believable for our taste!
