|This August 21 lockdown has taken New Zealand very much by surprise. One of the many things to grind to a holt was New Zealand Fashion Week, just days before it was due to commence. |
Sans Pareil spoke to some of the designers meant to show, on what their life during this lockdown looks like.
What is lockdown like for your household?
There's a lot of delicious meals involved and respect for each other's space, which allows us to spend our time in a way that suits our individual needs best.
What have you been up to?
I've been working in my studio, in-between bouts of binge-watching and excessive naps. I've also been writing a fair bit, from collating a few interviews with the designers in the show to your classic existential stream of consciousness type of deal.
Are you working from home? Why/ why not?
Yes, to get my work done and to stay sane.
What have you been doing for yourself during lockdown to relax and for self-care?
Not enough, to be honest. I have been meditating sporadically and writing has been a great way to collect my thoughts and unwind. I like the idea of exercising but haven't quite got around to it yet.
Do you have anything you would like to achieve during lockdown?
I want to make sure that we are on track for our rescheduled show date, which has been tentatively pencilled in for the 9th of October. We were doing great for time before lockdown, this just gives us some extra time to hone our work.
Have you got any recommendations for reading/ watching / listening to?
Since I'm nostalgic and an overthinker, I really enjoy reading old journals. It helps me realise recurring themes and how many experiences we cram into our lives. I'm also a serial re-reader/watcher especially during lockdowns, I find it quite comforting. I've recently watched who killed Malcolm X and Luce on Netflix, which I'd recommend along with Headspace guide to Meditation if you're in the mood. It's essentially meditation for dummies and I swear by it.
